The Annual Giving Campaign is the largest revenue source for The Foundation. The campaign kicks off in September with the mailing of the Community Report. Around 84% of the District’s families participate in the Annual Giving Campaign by donating cash or stock to The Foundation.
In 2009-2010, the Foundation was able to gift $1,450,000 to the School District as a result of individual donations that ranged from $20 to over $65,000. Those dollars enabled the District to fund the following for 2010-11:
- 12 Additional Teachers District-Wide, for smaller class size, Music, P.E., a broad 6th-8th grade curriculum including Geometry, Foreign Languages, Art and Drama
- Guest Artist instruction at Las Lomitas
- School Counselors
- Reading Recovery at Las Lomitas
- Instructional Materials & Textbooks
The School District’s distinguished level of academic excellence comes with a price that public funding sources alone cannot pay. The current combination of declining property tax revenue, a devastating loss of $1.2 million in state funding, and increased student enrollment have pushed our District’s finances out of balance. Funding for the School is not tied to student enrollment: as enrollment grows, funds are spread across more students. Public funding alone cannot sustain our high academic standards.
Now, our need is greater than ever: the District will not be able to maintain class sizes at our historic low levels and will cut some critical curriculum programs without our increased financial help.
Once again, we ask for your generous private contributions to sustain the educational excellence in our district. We need to raise $2,600,000 to fill the gap. How will the Foundation funds be used by the school district next year?
$1,450,000: Support 8.5 -14 teachers to keep class sizes to 2010-11 levels;
$ 400,000: Prevent additional program cuts needed in 2011-12
$ 350,000: Replace 3 teachers lost at end of 2009-10
$ 400,000: Hire for enrollment growth and add enhanced curriculum choices
$2,600,000 Total
With 1300 students enrolled in the district, we must raise $2,000 per child to reach our goal.
