Textbooks and Instructional Materials
What is Fund-A-Need? Fund-A-Need helps meet the specific funding gaps and needs at each school in a given year. The needs are identified by teachers and recommended to the Foundation by the principals and superintendent. These needs change from year to year based on projected budget shortfalls and identified opportunities.
This year’s Fund-A-Need is back-to-basics and supports textbooks and instructional materials at both Las Lomitas and La Entrada. The latest state budget cuts have hugely impacted the district’s funding for updated instructional materials including textbooks and workbooks for our core curriculum as well as the classroom materials for arts and science [e.g. squid for 7th grade science].

Can you imagine your child learning to write without a workbook or to learn sciences without dissection?
How can we sustain being the best in the state without the most up-to-date and compelling materials?
In addition to htis, our increasing enrollment requires the district to purchase more materials so that every child has the required textbooks and workbooks. Therefore, Las Lomitas and La Entrada teachers have requested money for these instructional materials to support our children in their formative years. At our Las Lomitas Elementary School District, textbooks and instructional material cost us over $100,000 per year. These materials break out into three important areas:

| New Adoptions |
Each academic program is assessed and updated every seven years. The District has a rotating schedule so that each year one or two curriculum areas are evaluated. The updated materials are substantially better than the older versions as they incorporate new technology and the latest research and more differentiated instruction. We need $37,000 for next year’s adoption in Grade 6-8 language arts, K-3 English-language development and Grades 6-8 Spanish. |

Consumables are materials that are used by the students including:
